"Karida and Ann met in 2011 while Ann was teaching a class at Fiber Space in Alexandria, Virginia, to support her self-published pattern book, "Craft. Work. Knit."

Karida signed up to take her color theory class. The next time they saw each other, Ann moved in with Karida in Baltimore. For 8 days. In a 700 square foot studio that also served as a home to Neighborhood Fiber Co. and two small dogs. With this kind of intense situation, it was clear that they would either become best friends or never speak to each other again.

Two years later, Ann Weaver moved to Baltimore. Karida, a self-proclaimed evangelist from Baltimore, shared her love for the vibrant culture, history, character, diversity of Baltimore, and its potential for artists and other creatives.

Ann and Karida continued to collaborate around yarn and other fiber arts. One of their adventures took them to a week-long weaving workshop at Harrisville Designs. When they visited the mill and met the owners, they both knew they wanted to work with them to create something.

Karida and Ann reflected on ideas and considered what they wanted in a yarn. The Harrisville team shared their years of experience and expertise on wool, yarn, and the spinning process. There were many trials with different fiber contents, yarn weights, and dyeing techniques. The first skeins of "North Ave" were dyed in small batches and hand-plied by Ann on her wheel. Each color combination was then knitted into a few long strips on a knitting machine. The process was meticulous, precise, and SLOW. However, the results justified everything. This yarn is The Yarn.

Our greatest compliment and our greatest encouragement came from the Harrisville team, who told us that our process and our product resembled nothing they had ever seen. We hope you will agree.
