  • 1 set of 2.5mm double tips
  • 1 yarn needle

Sample

28 sts x 36 rows for 10cm by 10cm with 2.5mm needles in circular stockinette stitch. Important : check the sample and adjust the needle number if necessary.

Realization

Cast on 56 stitches with the set of 2.5 mm double pointed needles. Join in the round taking care not to twist the stitches. Knit 3 cm in rib 2/2 then continue in stocking st for 5 cm. Total height = 8 cm from the mounting row.

Start the heel as follows:

row 1: * Slip 1 stitch, knit a stitch * repeat from * to * for 28 stitches in total and turn. Leave the other 28 stitches on hold.

Row 2 (wrong side): Slip one stitch and purl the other 27.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the heel measures 6.5 cm in total height, ending with a knit row.

Start the heel piece as follows:

row 1 (wrong side of work): purl 18, purl 2 together, purl 1, turn and leave the rest of the stitches on the left on hold.

Row 2 (right side): Slip 1 stitch, knit 9, 1 simple overlock (slip a stitch, knit a stitch then fold the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch), knit 1, turn and leave the rest of the stitches in waiting.

Row 3: Slip 1 stitch, purl 10, purl 2 together, purl 1, turn.

Row 4: Slip 1 stitch, knit 11, 1 single overlock, knit 1, turn.

Row 5: Slip 1 stitch, purl 12, purl 2 together, purl 1, turn.

Row 6: Slip 1 stitch, knit 13, 1 single overlock, knit 1, turn.

Row 7: Slip 1 stitch, purl 14, purl 2 together, purl 1, turn.

row 8: Slip 1 stitch, knit 15, 1 single overlock, knit 1, turn.

Row 9: Slip 1 stitch, purl 16, purl 2 together, turn.

Row 10: Slip 1 stitch, knit 16, 1 single overlock = 18 stitches.

Pick up 15 stitches along the left side.

Take a new needle (needle 2) and knit the next 14 stitches on hold.

Take a new needle (needle 3) and knit the next 14 stitches on hold.

Take a new needle (needle 4) and go up 15 stitches along the right side then, following 9 stitches from the heel.

The stitches will now be distributed as follows:

  • Needle 1 (under the foot): 9 heel stitches + 15 stitches raised on the left side = 24 stitches.
  • Needle 2: 14 stitches (top of the foot).
  • Needle 3: 14 stitches (top of the foot).
  • Needle 4: 15 stitches picked up along the right side + 9 heel stitches = 24 stitches.

Begin the decreases for the gusset as follows:

Row of decreases:

Needle 1: Knit up to 3 stitches from the end, knit 2 stitches together, knit 1.

Needle 2 and 3: Knit all stitches.

Needle 4: Knit a stitch, 1 single overlock and finish the needle.

Knit a row of decreases and a knit row until there are 14 stitches on each needle = 56 stitches.

Continue on these 56 stitches until 15 cm from the line of the heel.

Then start the decreases for the tip of the foot as follows:

Row of decreases:

Needle 1: Knit up to 3 stitches from the end, knit 2 stitches together, knit 1.

Needle 2: 1 simple overlock, finish the needle.

Needle 3: Knit up to 3 stitches from the end, knit 2 stitches together, knit 1.

Needle 4: 1 simple overlock, finish the needle.

Alternate a row of decreases and a knit row until you have 14 stitches on each needle.

Knit the 5 stitches on needle 1 in order to distribute 10 stitches on needles 2 and 3 and 10 stitches on needles 1 and 4.

Sew the end of the sock using kitchener stitch.
