A sock pattern for babies and children in sizes from birth to 4 years old.

Size

0-1 (3, 6-9, 12-18) months; [2, 3-4] years

Material

• 50 g of sock yarn corresponding to the sample
• 1 set of double-pointed needles 2.25 mm
• 1 wool needle

Measures

10 (11, 12, 14); [16, 18] cm foot length

Sample

32 sts x 42 rows = 10cm with 2.25 mm needles in circular stockinette stitch. Important : check the sample and adapt the needle number if necessary.

Realization

The sock is started at the ankle: Caster 36 (40, 44, 48); [52, 56] stitches and distribute them on the set of 2.25 mm double pointed needles. Join in the round taking care not to twist the stitches.

Step 1 - The Ankle

Knit in 2/2 rib for 8 (10, 10, 14); [16, 18]. Continue in stocking st or pattern until 7 (8, 8.5, 9.5); [10, 12] full height (including ribbed trim).

Step 2 - The Heel

Work only on half of the stitches back and forth as follows:

row 1 (right side of sock): *Slip 1 stitch, knit one stitch* repeat from * to * for 18 (20, 22, 24); [26, 28] stitches then turn the work.

row 2 (you are now on the wrong side of the work): Slip a stitch then knit 17 (19, 21, 23); [25, 27] purl.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until 15 (17, 19, 23); [23, 27] rows ending with a knit row.

Step 3 - The heel

On the next row (wrong side), form the heel piece as follows:

prep row (wrong side): Knit 12 (14, 15, 16); [18, 19] purl stitches, purl 2 stitches together, turn the work and leave the 4 (4, 5, 6); [6, 6] last stitches on needle.

row 1 (right side): Slip a stitch, 6 (8, 8, 8); [10, 10] knit stitches, 1 simple overlock, turn the work.

row 2 (wrong side): Slip 1 stitch, 6 (8, 8, 8); [10, 10] purl, purl 2 together.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you get 8 (10, 10, 10); [12, 12] stitches ending with a knit row.

Next, pick up along the left side of the heel: 8 (9, 10, 12); [12, 14] stitches.

With a second needle, knit the 18 (20, 22, 24); [26, 28] following stitches (the top of the foot which had been put on hold before the formation of the heel).

Then with a third needle, pick up 8 (9, 10, 12); [12, 14] stitches along the right side of the heel and knit 4 in a row (5, 5, 5); [6, 6] heel stitches.

The stitches are now distributed as follows:

needle 1: 12 (14, 15, 170; [18, 20] stitches - half the heel stitches + the stitches picked up on the heel.

needle 2: 18 (20, 22, 24); [26, 28] stitches.

needle 3: 12 (14, 15, 17); [18, 20] stitches - the stitches picked up on the heel + half of the stitches on the heel.

Step 4 - The Gusset

For all sizes:

Row of decreases

needle 1: Knit to the last 2 stitches, 2 stitches together.

needle 2: Right side out.

needle 3: Knit a simple overlock and finish the needle.

row 2: Make a turn all the way to the right side.

Alternately repeat rows 1 and 2 until you get on needles 1 and 3: 9 (10, 11, 12); [13, 14] stitches.

Then continue straight until 5 (5.5, 6, 7); [8, 9.5] cm from the line of the picked up stitches on the side of the heels.

Step 5 – Tiptoe

Begin the decreases with the toe as follows:

Size 0-1 month

row 1: *7 sts, 2Tog* repeat 4 times across the entire row. Knit one row.

row 3: *6 sts, 2 Tog* repeat 4 times across the entire row. Knit one row.

row 5: *5 sts, 2 Tog* repeat 4 times across the entire row. Knit one row.

row 7: *4 sts, 2 Tog* repeat 4 times across the entire row. Knit one row.

row 9: *3 sts, 2 Tog* repeat 4 times across the entire row. Knit one row.

row 11: * 2 sts, 2 Tog * repeat 4 times on the entire row.

row 12: * 1 st, 2 Tog * repeat 4 times on the entire row.

Pass the yarn through the remaining 8 stitches, tighten and tuck in all the yarns. Knit a second similar sock.

Size 3-6 months

row 1: *8 sts, 2 tog* repeat 4 times on the entire row. Knit one row.

row 3: *7m, 2Tog* repeat 4 times across the entire row. Knit one row.

row 5: *6 sts, 2 Tog* repeat 4 times on the entire row. Knit one row.

row 7: *5 sts, 2 Tog* repeat 4 times on the entire row. Knit one row.

row 9: *4 sts, 2 Tog* repeat 4 times across the entire row.

row 10: *3 sts, 2 Tog* repeat 4 times across the entire row.

row 11: *2 sts, 2 Tog* repeat 4 times across the entire row.
