20 mx 32 rows for 10 cm by 10 cm with 3.5 mm needles in circular stockinette stitch
Realization
Using 3 mm needles, cast on 88 stitches. Join in a round, taking care not to twist the stitches. Place a marker ring.
Knit in 1/1 rib for 10 rows. Continue with 3.5 mm needles. On the next row, increase as follows:
- Knit 1, 1 increase in stitch *, repeat from * to * across the entire row - 132 stitches.
Continue in stocking stitch until the total height measures 14 cm (measured from the cast-on row).
Begin the decreases for the top of the beret as follows:
row 1: * 10 stitches + 2 stitches together * repeat from * to * to the end of the row - 121 stitches. Knit one row.
row 3: * 9 stitches + 2 stitches together * repeat from * to * to the end of the row - 110 stitches. Knit one row.
row 5: * 8 stitches + 2 stitches together * repeat from * to * to the end of the row - 99 stitches. Knit one row.
row 7: * 7 stitches + 2 stitches together * repeat from * to * to the end of the row = 88 stitches. Knit one row.
row 9: * 6 stitches + 2 stitches together * repeat from * to * to the end of the row = 77 stitches. Knit one row.
row 11: * 5 stitches + 2 stitches together * repeat from * to * to the end of the row = 66 stitches. Knit one row.
row 13: * 4 stitches + 2 stitches together * repeat from * to * until the end of the row = 55 stitches. Knit one row.
row 15: * 3 stitches + 2 stitches together * repeat from * to * to the end of the row = 44 stitches. Knit one row.
row 17: * 2 stitches + 2 stitches together * repeat from * to * until the end of the row = 33 stitches. Knit one row.
row 19: * 1 stitch + 2 stitches together * repeat from * to * to the end of the row = 22 stitches. Knit one row.
row 21: * 2 stitches together * repeat from * to * to the end of the row = 11 stitches.
row 22: * 2 stitches together * repeat from * to * until the last stitch and finish with 1 knit stitch = 6 stitches.
row 23: * 2 stitches together * repeat from * to * until the end of the row = 3 stitches.
Knit in I-Cord on these 3 stitches for 5 rows then cast off the remaining 3 stitches.
Finishes
Tuck in all the wires. Wash with a Eucalan type wool product and let dry flat. (Little tip from Céline: To properly shape the beret, I dry the beret with a plate inside).
