Start with the neck:
Cast on 5 stitches with 3 mm needles and knit 8 rows in stockinette st. Continue through the head as follows:

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until there are 12 stitches. Knit 4 rows of stocking st, then:

Sew the sides of the head, embroider the tip of the nose in pink and embroider two eyes 5 stitches from the nose and spaced 5 stitches apart each. Stuff the inside of the head.

Cast on 3 stitches and knit 6 rows.
row 7: Knit the first stitch in the front strand then back (2 stitches), knit 1 stitch, then knit the last stitch in the front strand then back. (5 stitches).
Knit 11 rows over these 5 stitches.
Decrease on the next row as follows: 2 Tog, 1 st, 2 Tog = 3 stitches. Knit 3 rows over these 3 stitches then cast off. Knit a second identical ear. Sew the ears to the top of the head, side by side.

Fold the body over itself and sew the side of the body. Place Valentine's neck in the middle of the shoulders, pushing it down 1.5 cm. Sew the shoulders by sewing the neck between the 2 layers.
Embroider a heart in chain stitch with the red thread 2 stitches below the shoulders. (Do not sew the lower body until the legs are done!).
Arms: (They are knitted in I-Cord on 2 double pointed needles 3 mm).
Cast on 4 stitches and knit in I-Cord for 15 rows. Cut the yarn and pass it through these 4 stitches. Knit a second identical arm. Sew these 2 arms after the shoulder seam on each side of the body.
Legs: (These are worked in the round on a set of 3 mm double pointed needles).
Cast on 8 stitches and knit 8 rows. On the next row, knit all stitches 2 by 2 = 4 stitches. Knit 8 rows over these 4 stitches, then cut the yarn and pass it through these 4 stitches. Knit a second identical leg.
Sew the bottom of the body by placing the legs 7 stitches from the edges and pushing them in 4 rows, sew them through the 2 layers of the body. Before finishing the seam, stuff the body lightly (approximately 2 cm body thickness).
