IMPORTANT . check sample and adjust needle number if necessary

– Abbreviations:
meD = knit stitch, Tog = 2 knit stitches together, st = stitch

- Techniques:
Left-oriented decrease: Slip the first stitch as if to knit, the second as if to knit, pass the left needle in front of the 2 slipped stitches and knit these 2 stitches together.

Right intercalary increase: Pick up, with the left needle, the thread between the two stitches from back to front and knit it in the front loop. (the strand is knit twisted.)

Left intercalary increase: Pick up, with the left needle, the yarn between the two stitches from front to back and knit it in the back loop. (the strand is knit twisted).

Realization:
Cast on 36 stitches with the Watershed and the set of double pointed needles. Distribute them on 3 needles and join in the round, taking care not to twist the stitches. Knit in stockinette st for 10 cm then start the gusset as follows:

Preparation rows: Knit 18 stitches, place a marker ring, knit an intercalary increase, place a second marker, finish the row. Knit a row all the way.

Continue like this:
row 1: knit 18, slip the ring, knit a right intercalary increase, knit to the second marker ring, knit a left intercalary increase and finish the row.
rg 2 and 3: All right side up.
Repeat rows 1 to 3 until there are 15 stitches. After the last increase row, knit one row only.

On the next row, knit to the first marker ring, remove it, thread the 15 gusset stitches on an intermediate thread with a yarn needle, remove the second ring and finish the row. The sts of the gusset are placed on a holder, continue as follows for the hand:

Knit up to 8 cm from the end of the gusset. To fit the mitten perfectly to your hand: knit until the knit goes past the top of your little finger.
Begin the decreases for the top of the hand as follows:

row 1: * 1 sdr, DOG (left-oriented decrease, see explanation above), 12 sdr, 2 Tog, 1 sdr * repeat one more time.
Knit 2 rows.
row 4: * 1 sdr, DOG (left-oriented decrease, see explanation above), 10 sdr, 2 Tog, 1 sdr * repeat once more.
Knit 2 rows.
row 7: * 1 sdr, DOG (left-oriented decrease, see explanation above), 8 sdr, 2 Tog, 1 sdr * repeat once more.
Knit 2 rows.
row 10: * 1 sdr, DOG (left-oriented decrease, see explanation above), 6 sdr, 2 Tog, 1 sdr * repeat once more.
Knit 2 rows.
row 13: * 1 sdr, DOG (left-oriented decrease, see explanation above), 4 sdr, 2 Tog, 1 sdr * repeat once more.
Knit 2 rows.

Place the first 8 and the last 8 on two needles and close the mitten in kitchener stitch.

Thumb:
Pick up the 15 thumb stitches and distribute them over a set of 3 double-pointed needles. Join the thread and pick up at the end of the round 2 stitches between the thumb and the hand = 17 stitches.
On the next round decrease as follows: 14 sts, 2 tog then knit a decrease facing left by taking the first stitch of the next row = 15 stitches.

Knit over these 15 stitches straight for 5 cm from the base of the thumb. (To fit the mitt perfectly to your hand, begin the decreases when you get to the middle of the thumbnail.)

Decrease for tip of thumb as follows:
Row 1: * 3 meds, 2 Tog* 3 times.
row 2: place.
row 3: * 2 meD, 2 Tog* 3 times.
row 4: place.
row 5: * 1 st, 2 tog * 3 times = 6 stitches.
Pass the thread through these 6 stitches, tighten and tuck the thread.
Tuck in all the threads of this mitten then wash and block it.

Lining:
When it is dry, take the alpaca yarn and pick up 36 stitches along the cast-on row. Knit the same mitten in the reverse direction following the same instructions. It is normal for the alpaca mitten to be a little smaller.

Finishes:
Tuck the alpaca mitten inside the Watershed mitten. Sew with a few invisible stitches and sewing thread the mitten with its lining at the end of the hand and the thumb.
Form a 70 cm cord by taking the 2 threads together. Sew the cord with a stitch just below the thumb. Tie a knot at the other end.
Knit a second similar mitten.

Happy Holidays! ˜
