FAIRY MITTENS

picture (94) - Size:
average woman

– Final measures:
hand circumference = 19 cm
Mitt height: 17 cm, unstretched width = 7.5 cm

- Material:
40g of the Boréale + Haïku mix
Double-pointed needles 3.5 mm and 4 mm
a yarn needle
2 reference rings

- Sample:
20 stitches x 28 rows for 10cm by 10cm with 4mm needles in circular jersey
IMPORTANT . check sample and adjust needle number if necessary

Realization:
With 3.5 mm double pointed needles, cast on 32 stitches very loosely. Join in the round taking care not to twist the stitches. Knit the border as follows:
Row 1: All right side up.
Row 2: Everything upside down.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the total height measures 5 cm, ending with row 2. Continue with 4 mm needles and knit 3 rows all in place.
Then begin the formation of the gusset as follows:

row 1: Knit 16 stitches, place a marker ring, make an intermediate increase, place a second marker ring and finish the round = 1 stitch between the 2 marker rings.
row 2: all right side up.
row 3: Knit up to the first marker ring, slip it, knit an intermediate increase, knit until the second marker ring, make an intermediate increase, slip the second ring and finish the round = 3 stitches between the 2 marker rings.
row 4 and 5: All right side up.

Repeat rows 3 to 5 until there are 13 stitches between the 2 marker rings. Knit a row after the last increase. Then, knit 16 stitches, remove the first ring and slip an auxiliary thread with a yarn needle through the 13 stitches of the gusset, remove the second ring, and finish knitting the round. The 13 stitches of the gusset are thus put on hold to form the thumb later.

Continue on the 32 stitches from the hand in knit rows for 3 cm from the end of the gusset. Then, knit the edge as follows:
Row 1: Everything upside down.
rg 2: All right side up.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 one more time then knit only row 1 and then cast off very loosely.

Thumb formation:
Join the thread at the base of the gusset and replace the 13 stitches on hold on 3 double pointed needles. Knit a round and pick up 2 stitches at the end of the round, between the gusset and the hand = 15 stitches.
Knit 2 cm from the base of the thumb then 1 purl row, 1 purl row, 1 purl row and cast off the 15 stitches very loosely.
Tuck in all the threads and knit a second similar mitten.

The whole team at La Maison Tricotée wishes you happy holidays and hours of knitting with your family!!!
